Balázs Wizner (1972) sociologist-documentary filmmaker. Previously, as an employee of the Institute of Sociology of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences Centre of Excellence, he researched mainly in the field of Roma organizations and programs, and since 2004 as the head of the Metaforum Film Studio where he made documentaries (Once they were neighbours, 2006; Rocking the nation, 2007; Chinese express, 2009; Bosnia, Bosnia!, 2012) and created advertisements for social purposes (What if not Hungarian?, 2011). In addition to his film projects, he currently works as a video correspondent (AFP) and cinematographer (Washington Holocaust Museum). In 2018, his first feature film titled Alien Sounds was released, with which selected to several festivals and won awards. In 2020 his study entitled 'Comfort Zone and Progressivity in Hungarian Jewish Cultural Life' was published, summarizing the results of his research examining the programs of Jewish cultural organizations. He produced their documentary with Ilona Gaal entitled Final Stage, which won the audience award at the Version Festival, and a documentary on the fate of the last generation of Transcarpathian Jewry titled Sábesz stika, co-directed with Zsuzsa Shiri, which has not yet been officially released.
