Shmita is about rebuilding and nurturing our relationship with the land. The theme of the lecture is human society alienated from the soil.
How do humans outgrow themselves and the soil? What are the influences that shape the soil and man? How do the soil and man rest/regenerate? How to prevent soil degradation and burnout? The theme will be unfolded through movement and performativity tools such as landscape making, scores, and contact improvisation. The movement vocabulary of earthwork, the movement of machines and people, productivity, and the choreographies of rest, personal rituals, and seasonal tasks are essential in movement research.
In duet situations, utilization, wear and tear, recharging appear,
relaxation, symbiosis. Smells, sounds, and visuality play an equal role with movement and text.
The first phase of the performance took place at the Trafó Studio on 3 March 2023 at the Next Festival.
