The first salon event of the ZSK, where network members and their friends, artists, curators, and artists curators gather to learn from each other and share details of their current work. It is our intention to use these events as an opportunity for discourse and collaboration between artists.
It is planned to have 4-5 events a year where network members will present their current work.

FISCAL SELF/PICTURE -- identity, trauma, self-portrayal
"Don't make a carved image for yourself, nor any shape of what is in the sky, above, and what is on the ground, below, and what is in the water.
under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them..." (Exodus 20:4-5, Deuteronomy 5:8-9) -- says the Bible.
Yet artists of the Jewish religion or of Jewish descent still depict human figures and faces.
How do these works reveal the traditions, tensions, complexities, or lack of identity of Jewish identity? How do twentieth-century artists of Jewish descent portray themselves, and how do their self-portrayals testify to their Jewishness? Are portraiture, human figure portraiture, and self-portraiture related to the assumption (or concealment) and tragedy of Jewish identity in the twentieth century? How have Jewish women artists managed to assert themselves over the last two centuries, and how do their self-portraits differ from those of men?
